Affinity Groups![]() Affinity groups (also known as small group ministry or covenant groups) are intended to expand and deepen personal connections, and to provide opportunities for deeper spiritual exploration. Groups of about 8 to 10 are established each fall based on a shared area of interest, and are a year-long commitment. Update The Complaint-Free World Group has changed their name to Positive Talk to better reflect their direction and progress. They have changed their meeting day from Tuesday nights to Sunday afternoons. So far they have explored three books; A Complaint-Free World by Will Bowen, The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, and Change your Brain, Change Your Life by Daniel G. Amen. The Dinner and a Movie group meets one Friday night each month to enjoy a potluck dinner. After dinner they view and discuss socially and environmentally enlightening films. Questions and comments can be directed to Ron Stanley at affinity@uufgc.org or to other current facilitators. Adult Religious EducationSaturday, October 2 (10:00 to 3:00) Join Terry for "The New UU" on at the Fellowship, lunch and childcare provided. This program was designed by the Rev. Jonalu Johnstone, who was a member of this congregation. It is a comprehensive introduction to and reminder of what Unitarian Universalism is all about and is thus appropriate for new people and longer-term members. Since many of our fundamental assumptions about the religious quest differ from the mainstream of our surrounding culture, since we have a glorious past but cannot coast upon it, since our shrinking world requires more and more sensitivity to mindsets not our own, this is a great gathering to be part of. If you need childcare, please E-mail mailto: minister@uufgc.org so we can prepare. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. If you cannot make this time but want to do this workshop, let Terry know as well. Social ActionSunday, October 3 The Oct. 3 collection for Association Sunday will help fund a special new program of the UUA linking congregations together in mentoring relationships so that successful congregations can share their wisdom with struggling ones. This new program has great promise and has shown real success in trial runs. Checks should be made out to the UUA with Association Sunday 2010 and your congregation's name on the memo line; they may be put in the offering or mailed to the Unitarian Universalist Association, 25 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108; donations may also be made online at uua.kintera.org/assoc_sunday . 10-10-10 Global Work Party (9am)Sunday, October 10 (9 am) Frostburg State University's Learning Green Living Green Committee and the Georges Creek Watershed Assoc. will be participating in 350.org's Global Work Day on October 10, 2010 (10-10-10). The coordinators of this event, OSM/VISTA Adam Plourde and Regional Watershed Coordinator Kelly Martin will be at the project site by 9AM for early volunteers. HospitalityAlways on the hunt for people just like you who are willing to participate in the Sunday service by providing a snack to go with coffee. Is it your turn? Sign-up on the sheet beside the coffee pot or email me. And thanks for helping to make this important activity possible. Martin's Gift CardsStarting Sunday March 28, 2010, please make out your Martin's Gift Cards check to "UUFGC" rather than "Dick Soderman". These funds will now flow directly into the UUFGC Capital Account rather than through my personal checking account and then into the UUFGC Capital Account. To get the most out of your Martin's Cards ask the cashier to write the card's balance on the card. For example, the cashier rings up a total of $17.95 and you hand her/him a $100 Martin's Card. If you ask, the cashier will put a sticker on the card that you just used. On the sticker the cashier will write the balance ($82.05) to help you keep track of what you have left. Remember, Martin's Gift Cards are one of our best fund raising resources and can be purchased after Sunday service or emailing Dick at giftcards@uufgc.org . |
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Greater Cumberland donates the plate collected at the first Sunday of every month to a designated cause.
